"The Black Nouvo Project" in Area 51, maybe.
I just want to restore this scooter, be like new again. Shiny.

One of my new found freedoms of life in Bermuda has been the release from the boredom, stress, frustration, and wasted time of car traffic.  I used to love driving -- growing up in Saskatchewan driving was initially the new freedom which allowed one to expand not just horizons, but hobbies and friendships.  Once in Edmonton, driving afforded convenience and flexibility...but more and more it meant time stuck in traffic, knuckle-whitening death grips on the wheel on icy roads in the winter and knucklehead drivers to avoid in the summer....makes me tense up just thinking about it.    Driving remained a tool to keep expanding those horizons, hobbies, and friendships, but during the winter months it could add 2 hours to the work day, plus the initial trek out to the car in darkness and temperatures of -20C to -30C to start the car, scrape the windshield, and remove the snowfall coating the entire car.  In retrospect...what a horrible way to start a day.  But a fact of life...in Canada.

My two year old 115cc Yamaha Nouvo parked in my house. The Yamaha Nouvo is quite popular in Vietnam.

About every six months here in Saigon, I get a new seat cover for my Yamaha Nouvo motorbike. This is actually my third replacement since I bought my motorbike back in August, 2004. This shop did not have any spare seat covers for my motorbike so they decided to make me a new one from scratch. It took them 45 minutes and cost only 60,000 VND ($4 US).

WHY MY YAMAHA NOUVO IS BETTER THAN OTHERS?

That leaves transportation. Taxis (teksi) are quite cheap, but sometimes it's hard to find a local number to call to have one come and get me. That happened at Makro, but finally a newsstand operator was able to give me a phone number. After I called, the taxi came in about five minutes. Bus service is unreliable (at least that's what everyone tells me), and all the members of the faculty have cars, which they use even to get from one part of campus to another. I've been shopping for a motorbike and thought I had one ordered at the closest shop, but it turned out they couldn't get it for another week or more.

A lot of people will buy old motorbikes like Hondas and Russian Minsks. These are okay, but you don’t have to go this route.

Getting a motorbike in Vietnam Mopeds (motor-scooters) are also fine. I rode around Vietnam on a 125cc 2004 Yamaha Nouvo (pictured above) that I paid $151 (£100) for. That’s a good deal cheaper than the average of $3-400 that most people want for those old Honda Wins and Minsks.

With more than 50,000 kilometres on the clock, my Yamaha cruised on the highways without any issue at 60-80kph, crossed many a rough surface including mud and sand, and climbed the mountains north of Hanoi without grumbling once. I got one puncture that was quickly fixed by a roadside garage for less than $1.

MIKUNI CARBURETOR TUNING TIPS

Here’s the simple outline for basic tuning to get you started.

1) Idle Circuit:

With your idle circuit, start at 1 1/2 to 2 turns out on the mixture screw and then wind your idle screw back to give a very slow idle whilst at operating engine temp with the bike upright. Follow this with 1/2 turn checks winding in one direction every 10 seconds till the engine starts to stumble, at this point then wind back in the opposite direction counting your half turns till it stumbles again. Wind back ½ the number of counted turns to the centre point. Then count the turns from this point to bottoming out, if you take less than 3 and more than 1 complete turns to achieve bottom, the jet is correct and you simply wind back to the centre point. Job done.

CARBURETOR SETTING YAMAHA NOUVO / NEO AT115

Yamaha Nouvo / Neo AT115 using x1 BS25 Mikuni carburetor type.

Tuning a carburetor vacuum is basically the same as a conventional carburetor.

Ideal conditions:

• Clean the air filter [attached]
• Clean the spark plug [attached]
• Clean the carburetor [attached]
• Motorcycle upright position [middle stand]
• The temperature of the engine is at operating temperature [+/- heated for 5-10 minutes]

CLEANING THE AIR FILTER YAMAHA NOUVO / NEO AT115

After passing through the area were quite dusty, immediately clean the air filter element. Pressure air compressor is usually required [compressed air] to clean the air filter element is.

I will rebuild my 2002 Yamaha Nouvo.
But i dunno how to begin.
God help me.

Maybe... first step is Googling

and then, looking for spare parts in my town.

The 2002 Yamaha Nouvo is very cheap in my town. You can have it with about 1.5M [IDR] or equivalent with 150 bucks [USD] in good condition.
But the problem is the OEM spare parts for 2002 Yamaha Nouvo is very rare in here.

Maybe I should cross reference the spare parts with another scooter like Yamaha Mio, Honda, Suzuki.
